“They’ve gotten to be 80 or 90 years old and they still have their hot stuff here,” Goo said, announcing the next participant, Dance enthusiast Esther Mimiaga, 98, made her way down the runway with the help of a cane on one side and a caregiver’s hand on her opposite elbow, The occasion marked the first time she had put on lipstick green crystal ballet slipper earrings in 45 years, Goo later reported, The fashion show was a festive moment for the woman who once instilled the importance of not missing Sunday Mass in her son Robert, who traveled from his home at Lake Tahoe to attend the event, which his daughter Carol Carter of Walnut Creek, replied was “too cute (of an idea) not to make it.”..

“(Esther’s) memory is very short-term. She’s very cognizant in the moment. You can see she had a really good time,” said Mimiaga. The show included a couple, Ken and Saundra Nelson, married for 61 years after a chance meeting on a stairwell. They shared an unabashed kiss before promenading down the Aegis runway, with Goo stating, “James Bond, eat your heart out,” and giving the former Air Force sergeant’s bride props for earning a bachelor’s degree at age 65.

And Carmen Buell, an Arkansas farm girl and former Naval officer, proved to still be “light on her feet” while sporting a Chanel suit. A highlight of the show came when New Orleans native and former military nurse Elizabeth Sturdevant, who “always wanted to take care of other people,” made a grand, shimmering entrance in a motorized wheelchair, maneuvering with agility and aplomb, while blowing kisses to the enthusiastic crowd. “I got to feel that I could be part of something and not so turned in on myself all the time,” she said about taking part in the inaugural show.

It was the annual Halloween celebration for Week 7 of “Dancing With the Stars,” complete with Len Goodman returning from Europe, stepping out of a coffin during the opening number, Also returning was co-host Erin Andrews, fresh from World Series interviewing, Wonder if she’s already on a jet to Kansas City or if she will be watching on TV, Along with spooky individual dances for the remaining eight couples, this was the night for the team dances, It would have taken a lot to beat last year’s “What the Fox Says” team effort, but both teams came close, The teams were chosen by captains Bethany Mota and Alfonso Ribeiro, but somehow all of the members of TeamItsyBitsy, dancing to “Black Widow,” were declared safe to dance next week, That’s Bethany and Derek Hough, Janel Parrish and Val Chmerkovskiy, Lea Thompson and Artem Chigvintsev, and Michael Waltrip and Emma Slater, What?
