LONDON (Reuters) - Britain’s Virgin Atlantic could face industrial action from some of its pilots after a union representing over half of them said it is preparing to ballot members over strike action. The airline, whose main business is UK-to-U.S. flights and which is owned by Richard Branson’s Virgin Group and U.S. airline Delta, has refused to negotiate with the Professional Pilots Union (PPU) in a deal over benefits, the union says. The PPU represents 450 of the company’s 800 pilots but Virgin Atlantic has only negotiated with rival union BALPA, says the PPU.

“(The) union is threatening strike action unless the company include them in the negotiations and scrap the (benefits) review,” the PPU said in a statement on Thursday, A spokeswoman for Virgin Atlantic said there was currently no strike action planned and added that it could work with the PPU in future if it dropped a demand, “We’ve always been willing in principle to recognise the university of illinois fighting illini cufflinks PPU, but we won’t agree to their demand that we derecognise BALPA, and disenfranchise the hundreds of pilots who belong to this union,” she said in an emailed statement..

(Reuters) - Traders of U.S. short-term interest-rate futures on Wednesday stuck with bets the Federal Reserve will raise rates once more this year and twice next year after the U.S. central bank ended a two-day meeting, as expected, with no change to interest rates. Contracts tied to the Fed’s policy rate that are traded at CME Group’s Chicago Board of Trade pared earlier losses after the Fed slightly downgraded its description of business investment, saying growth had moderated since earlier in the year. Still, the pricing of the contracts continued to signal expectations for a Fed rate hike next month, and two further hikes in 2019. That is one less 2019 rate hike than the Fed signaled when it last released forecasts in September.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - It was the lunch-hour rush at the Court Square Diner in New York’s Long Island City on Wednesday, and co-owner Nick Kanellos pointed to the elevated subway tracks that rattle overhead as he fretted over the news that Amazon may build a major outpost in the university of illinois fighting illini cufflinks neighborhood, Like many long-time inhabitants, he worries how this once-sleepy enclave in Queens would absorb the up to 25,000 people the online retail giant may employ here as it expands outside its Seattle home base..

“It’s a whole soccer stadium at 8 a.m. each day coming in,” Kanellos said, gesturing at the narrow metal staircases leading from the subway platform to the street, already crowded with commuters at rush hour. Amazon announced in September last year that it was seeking a site for a second corporate headquarters that would eventually employ up to 50,000 people. But it now plans to split its new headquarters between two sites, including Long Island City, according to a New York Times report.

Amazon again declined on Wednesday to comment on its selection process, Kanellos’ apprehension was shared by other long-time residents interviewed on Wednesday university of illinois fighting illini cufflinks on their home turf, a rapidly gentrifying area that sits just across the East River from Midtown Manhattan, Few, if any, objected to Amazon.com (AMZN.O) itself: Many conceded they were happy customers of the world’s largest online retailer, some paying for its Prime membership service, They just fear that their neighborhood is already bursting at the seams, with scores of glass apartment towers transforming an area long characterized by a mismatched jumble of low-rise buildings..
