La prima formazione dei Central Unit risale al 1980. Hanno base a Bologna, e nel 1982 autoproducono un EP dal titolo “Loving Machinery”, che ottiene un discreto riscontro a livello europeo (Belgio, Olanda e Germania soprattutto) grazie ad uno dei quattro brani, “Saturday Nite", molto trasmesso all'epoca dalle radio private. L'anno successivo per l'etichetta CGD esce il primo album, “Central Unit”, che si avvale della produzione artistica di Peter Principle, bassista dei Tuxedomoon. Nonostante il lusinghiero accoglimento da parte della critica musicale, il gruppo si scioglie nel 1984, per riformarsi solo nel 2000 con un line-up leggermente modificato. Nel 2004 la MP & Records, dopo aver ristampato su CD i primi due lavori, pubblica l’ album “Internal Cut”, che vede come guest star di lusso la tromba del jazzista Marco Tamburini. A settembre 2010 esce l’ultimo lavoro, I see you. Il noto artista grafico Giorgio Carpinteri ha disegnato le copertine di tutti i lavori della band.

CENTRAL UNIT is a band based in Bologna, Italy. They first entered Belgian and German charts in 1982 with the single Saturday Nite, then released an album for major label CGD, produced by Tuxedomoon bassist Peter Principle in 1983. They were seen as the italian answer to Tuxedomoon. After a 20 year disappearance they released a new album (Internal Cut, 2004) where they shifted to jazz-prog with a good amount of electronics and more presence of vocals. The album was made of new songs, reworkings of old ones and two covers (Franco Battiato’s Areknames and The Doors’ Riders On The Storm).
It got excellent reviews by every italian music magazine. Now they’re back with another cinematic journey, I See You, with all new compositions – an exception made for Bailamme which dates back to the eighties. Cover art, as always, by the renowned cartoon artist Giorgio Carpinteri.
